Description
A sculpture of great presence. It’s difficult to say when this work was created, but judging by the erosion of the stone - and the delicate nature and almost mold like features of the lips, nose and eyebrows, it’s safe to suggest that this has been around for a very long time.
I sourced this from a small area north of Tokyo which leads me to believe this is Black Fuji Stone. The distinct formed and structured Japanese Fuji/Lava stones are igneous stones. Meaning that this stone would have been from Mt Fuji in Japan.
Lava stone is a grounding stone that strengthens one’s connection to mother earth. It gives us strength and courage, allowing us stability through times of change. It provides guidance and understanding in situations where we may need to “bounce back”. A calming stone, it is very useful in dissipating anger.
In my research I have not found anything as remarkable as this piece. Its warrior like gaze - sternness and scarred - weathered through time in a folk like style of carving, only affirms the mysterious quality of a work like this.
