Description
The American Log Cabin Quilt - A quilt design which has been attributed to the Amish and Mennonites in the southern US states. The red centered colours really pop against the calico of the quilt and it is really a beautiful example of pattern, design and colour. There is some bleeding of the colours onto themselves, which to me adds to its artistic character and perhaps a more painterly quality feeling. Without question, the colours in this quilt are exceptional against that sun kissed earth tone of brown. The stitched ‘logs’ of fabric are thick and this piece certainly has a weight to it. The age is reflected in the piece itself - a historic era of American Craft.
